Learning
PE
Two hours of high quality physical education every week, plus swimming in Key Stage 2.
PE is taught in two hour-long sessions each week. Games, gymnastics and dance are taught by class teachers following the Primary PE Passport scheme. Swimming is taught to children in Key Stage 2 by class teachers and external coaches in termly blocks at our local leisure centre.
Good physical education supports children to develop competence in a broad range of physical activities, to be physically active for sustained periods, to engage in competitive sport, and to lead healthy, active lives.
In Key Stage 1 children master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, develop balance, agility and co-ordination, and take part in team games. In Key Stage 2 they apply and develop these skills in competitive games, athletics, gymnastics, dance and outdoor and adventurous activity.
