Design & Technology

An inspiring, rigorous and practical subject that solves real problems.

Using creativity and imagination, children design and make products that solve real and relevant problems, considering their own and other people's needs, wants and values. They draw on mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art, and learn to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative and enterprising.

The national curriculum for design and technology aims to ensure all pupils develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently; build and apply knowledge to design and make high quality prototypes for a range of users; critique, evaluate and test their own ideas and the work of others; and understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.

Design and technology is taught termly, in week-long blocks in most classes, so children can concentrate fully on the progression of skills and knowledge.
