Learning

Oracy

Spoken language shapes teaching and learning across our whole curriculum.

Spoken language is not an isolated part of the English curriculum. It is a fundamental part of our pedagogy, helping children develop cognitively, socially and linguistically, and it is reflected in learning environments designed to cultivate a respect for oracy.

We want children to become confident, articulate speakers who express their ideas clearly; to widen their vocabulary through language-rich experiences; to share learning through presentations, performances, drama, discussion and debate; to listen attentively and respond appropriately; and to speak audibly and fluently with increasing command of standard English.
